Assessment capability
Tests selected for the person in front of us
Retinal imaging, visual field testing and other investigations are used when appropriate to the examination. Screening may identify findings that need monitoring or referral, but it is not a guarantee that a condition will be detected or excluded.
Visual field testing
Peripheral-vision testing is available when the history or examination indicates that a more detailed field assessment would be useful.
Binocular and visual function
Assessment can include how the eyes coordinate, focusing, contrast, colour vision and other visual demands relevant to work, reading or sport.
Adapted examinations
The pace, explanations and structure of the visit can be adapted for people who need additional time or support, including patients living with dementia.
Eye-health screening
When glaucoma or diabetes is part of the picture
An optometric examination can include eye-pressure assessment, retinal imaging and visual-field testing when indicated. These findings help guide whether routine review, closer monitoring or referral to an ophthalmologist or medical practitioner is appropriate.
Screening is not the same as a medical diagnosis. Sudden vision loss, flashes, new floaters, marked redness or eye pain should be discussed by phone promptly rather than submitted through an online appointment request.
Adapted care
A structured visit when extra support helps
Martin has experience adapting examinations for people living with dementia or Alzheimer's disease. A family member or carer is welcome, and the visit can use a slower pace, simpler explanations and a more predictable structure.
Tell the practice what would make the visit easier when requesting the appointment. Please do not use the online form for urgent symptoms.
Visual function and precision fitting
Assessment for reading, binocular vision and specific visual tasks
The practice offers binocular-vision assessment, visual therapy and colorimetry assessment. Colorimetry is used to assess whether a precision tint changes visual comfort for a particular task; responses vary, and it is not presented as a treatment for dyslexia or reading difficulty.
Knobloch shooting-glasses fitting is also available for patients who need a carefully positioned optical correction for their shooting discipline.
What happens at the visit
- 1 We begin with your concerns, health and eye history, medication and the visual tasks that matter to you.
- 2 The optometrist selects tests that are appropriate to the history and findings rather than applying every test to every patient.
- 3 You receive a plain-language explanation of the findings, the recommended next step and any need for monitoring or referral.
